FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I check my current firmware/OS version and update the 3rd Wave to the latest version?

Your current firmware version is shown in the upper right corner of the screen header (e.g. “OS v1.x”). Groove Synthesis periodically releases new OS versions with new features and bug fixes, so check the Support page at groovesynthesis.com for the latest OS version, its changelog, and the download link before updating.

Below you will find steps to install a new firmware/OS version

  1. Download the new OS file from the Support page (file type “.ldr”; if it downloads as a zip, unzip it first).
  2. Connect the 3rd Wave to your computer via the USB connector on the back of the unit — it will mount as an external drive.
  3. Copy the .ldr file into the “firmware” folder on the 3rd Wave’s drive, and make sure the copy has fully finished before proceeding (see the separate FAQ on update-related boot problems if the copy seems to hang).
  4. On the synth, press the GLOBAL button, then use Soft Knob 1 to locate the “Firmware Update” command.
  5. Use Soft Knob 2 to select “go”.
  6. Press Soft Button 1 (refresh) — the screen will display the name of the OS file you copied over.
  7. Safely eject the 3rd Wave’s drive from your computer, then disconnect the USB cable from the back of the unit.
  8. Press the ok button below the screen, Soft Button 4 on the 24K/24M models and Soft Button 6 on the 8M model  — the display will alert you when the update has finished.
  9. Power the synth off briefly and back on; the updated OS version number will appear in the upper right corner of the display.
