FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is “linear FM” on the 3rd Wave, and what kind of sounds does it unlock that pure subtractive synths can’t make?
Linear FM (frequency modulation) is when one oscillator uses its pitch to cross-modulate another, producing the bright, metallic, bell-like harmonics classic FM synths are known for. Because linear FM sits alongside wavetable, analog, and samples on every oscillator, you can layer FM textures against warm analog tones, or even samples, all in the same patch.
