FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What makes the 3rd Wave’s wavetable engine sound so different from other synths?
Each voice runs through two filters in series: a digital state-variable filter, followed by a genuine analog low-pass filter built around the 2140 chip, the same chip lineage that synth designer Dave Rossum created for the original Prophet-5. That analog stage is what gives the 3rd Wave its distinctive, slightly greasy warmth when you push the resonance, since your wavetables are getting shaped by real analog electronics. It’s the same Dave Rossum-designed analog filter across the entire 3rd Wave line, from the 8M up to the 24K.
